Our Pastor

A dedicated husband, father, teacher and Pastor, Jesse Curney, III was first ordained as a Minister in 1987 at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, where Bishop Eddie L. Long is the Senior Pastor. While at New Birth Pastor Curney served as Youth Pastor, and subsequently was appointed to the Assistant Pastor and Executive Director overseeing the Education Ministry, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Children's Ministry and Evangelism Ministry.

In 2002 Pastor Curney answered the call of God to depart New Birth and formed New Mercies Christian Church in Gwinnett County. New Mercies held its first Inaugural Service with 35 founding families and friends on May 5, 2002, at their original location, 661 Rockbridge Road NW.

Within the first three years New Mercies experienced unprecedented growth and in 2005 moved to its current location of 4000 Five Forks Trickum Rd, the former Ingles shopping plaza in Lilburn Ga. The church currently operates out of its 1800 seat Family Life Center and the adjacent 300 seat Youth Worship Center. The church has also grown to include the D’vine Java Christian Book Store & Café; a Children’s Nursery; and the New Mercies Annex located at 1025 Killian Hill Road. This year the church also plans to expand the parking lot to accommodate 915 vehicles. Future plans include the construction of a 3500 seat Worship Complex in 2013.

In January 2009, Pastor Curney expanded on the church vision by charging New Mercies to be “A Growing Church, for Growing Christians”. The new vision focuses on growth as a community in Christ - connecting through teaching, fellowship and prayer. With this new vision dynamic, the members and ministry servants are charged to connect and “know” the Word of God through study and teaching; connect and “grow” spiritually through the renewing of minds and relationships, and; to connect and “go” as disciples of Christ by sharing the Word of God and impacting the world doing the works that God has called New Mercies and the body of Christ to do.

“God has called New Mercies to be ‘A Growing Church, for Growing Christians,’ states Curney, “in order to achieve this vision we must continue to grow holistically. In addition, we embrace our values of worshipping God, family, spiritual growth, economic empowerment, outreach and diversity.”

In 2009 Pastor Curney celebrated twenty-two years in ministry with the release of his first book, “A Walk In His Mercies” - A Daily Devotional Journal.

A Walk in His Mercies” is designed to provide daily insights from Curney along with bible scripture references to help the reader develop a closer relationship with God. Included in the devotional are note pages to encourage the reader to incorporate their personal feelings and testimonies in the book, providing a personal journal for them to refer to for years to come.

“I’m extremely excited about ‘A Walk In His Mercies’ and remain hopeful that it blesses others as much as it blessed me to write it.” states Curney. “As His Word says, He gives us new mercies every morning. This book is meant to be used as a daily devotional allowing readers time to meditate on God’s Word and commune with Him on a daily basis. My prayer is that ‘A Walk in His Mercies’ will help the reader develop a closer relationship with God.”

As a result of his dedication to helping and serving others regardless of their ethnicity or economic status, Pastor Curney has become one of the most respected Pastors in the country. He is a graduate of both Beulah Heights Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Education and Luther Rice University with a Master of Arts in Ministry and a Masters of Divinity. Pastor Curney is also a recipient of numerous community awards and accolades.

Currently, Pastor Curney is President and C.E.O. of Jesse Curney, III Ministries, and founder of Star Struck a non profit organization that provides mentoring for youth. Pastor Curney also serves as Chaplain for the Kappa Alpha Psi, Decatur Alumni Chapter. He is a member of the Gwinnett County Human Resource Advisory Council and, serves on the Board of the New Beginnings Life Changing Network, amongst others.

Pastor Curney is married to the lovely Aleana M. Curney and they are the proud parents of Jesse IV, Jiana, Jene' and spiritual son Joshua. The family resides in Lithonia, Georgia.
